On June 12, 2016 Pulse nightclub was setting of what has been called one of the most horrific incidents in modern United States history, a mass shooting taking place between the hours of two and five a.m. The targeted were the LGBTQ community attending a Latin Night hosted by Pulse. It left 49 dead and affected many more.
In the wake of this tragedy I saw a city coming together in the aftermath. Blood donation centers were turning people away not being able to take anymore in just some 10 hours after the incident taking place. Local businesses showed their support in a number of ways across the city, seemingly everywhere you looked was "ORLANDO STRONG" or some other unifying phrase.
Over 50,000 people came to a candlelight vigil held at Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando for the victims and their families. As an Orlando native it was a truly inspirational sight.
